Abstract

Zooplankton abundance distribution between 5 m and 25 m of depth was measured using an opening and closing multi-net sampler in July and December 1998, and March 1999; three sampling stations were surveyed along a transect traced perpendicularly to the coastline (inside, mouth and offshore). In July the highest average of abundance was inside the bay at 5 m, and the minimum in the offshore station at 25 m. In December the highest average of zooplankton abundance was recorded in the mouth of the bay at 10 m-depth and the lowest in the offshore stations at the same depth. In March the highest average biovolume of zooplankton was found in the mouth of the bay at 25 m-depth, and the lower inside the bay at 20 m-depth. The three-way analysis of variance showed differences between months (p<0,05), sampling depths, and between the sampling stations. Non-significant differences in the abundance of biovolume suggest a continuous mixing process produced by the outside-inside exchange of water along the year.
